As far as we are aware Z visas can only be applied for in your country of residents. That's for UK citz anyway.

That is an important point about the Z visa.  After getting it, you must get to work straightaway on getting a residence permit.

As for the process of getting it, and whether you must return home, I can't say, because I applied for mine in the US before coming here.

I am a bit with Mike. My answers to you are your training school helps with the resident permit not the Z Visa. They are two different things. The Z visa is only valid for 30 days while you get the RP.  You need to organise your Z and getting  it can change from day to day. It depends on what is going on in China. My impression is really that visa questions depend on dumb luck, or maybe on the I Ching or something.  All of mine always had different answers depending on who I asked.  So unfortunately I only feel qualified to tell you -- good luck!

Does anyone know. When beginning working full time with a training centre they will arrange the Z visa for you. Its my understanding that i must go home to Australia to apply it and get it. Is this true? and if so how long do i need to be in Australia to get it there? Is there any way of avoiding the perilous trip all the way back home for this? Cheers. Clint

The alphabet game is always a winner. A-Z around the class naming, animals, foods or anything at your class level. Higher level you could also try word association.

What I haven't figured out is good games for lower-level students.  Games that they can understand and that still might teach them any tiny bit of English.  They just want to either play computer games or just make each other sing songs and do embarrassing things.  I haven't figured out how to make all that have anything to do with, y'know, being in English class.

Today I had one class play a flyswatter game to review vocab.  I wrote English words from our last few lessons on the board.  Two students at a time compete to be the first to smack the right word.  e.g., if the helper reads "zu fu mu," the players need to swat "grandparents." 

I wouldn't have been able to explain it without my helper telling the class about it in Chinese.  But once they got into it, they had a lot of fun.

A foreign teacher and a Chinese English teacher is also different. we face different problems.
