Candies.

Xiao Wei (Le Le’s older cousin) came to the office this morning and he said ‘hi’ to everyone as he strolled in the office. When he came to my spot and said ‘hi’ Shelly a yi ( a1 yi2阿姨, aunt). A drama was on.

S: Xiao Wei, I’m Shelly jie jie ( jie3 jie1姐姐, older sister), but not a yi. (Please let me clarify this, I am the youngest one in the office, well, almost the whole company. I am only 18 years older than him. So why I am aunt but sister instead. :P)

X: Nope. Shelly a yi.

S: It’s jie jie.

X: a yi.

S: jie jie

X: a yi.

S: jie jie

X: a yi.

S: jie jie

X: a yi.

S: jie jie

X: a yi.

S: jie jie

X: a yi.

S: jie jie

…………………

(This ‘a yi – jie jie ’conversation has lasted for few minutes and he is so stubborn. Eventually, I got a brilliant idea, that always works for Le Le)

S: Oh who put this toffee here ?  Do you like toffee Xiao wei ?

X: Yes yes yes ! I love it ! (You should see his face, so bright, same as a cat gets a big fish meal.)

S: Hmm…You wanna keep it ?

X: Yes.

S: Ok sweetie, here you are. Now tell me, who am I ?

X: Shelly jie jie.

S: If you see me another time, what do you need to say ?

X: Hi Shelly jie jie, nice to see you again.

S: Good boy !

After this office episode, we had a small discussion about ‘Deep inside 3 – 6 years old kids mind, what does candy mean to them ?’.

Well, on the basis of my colleague experiences for dealing with their kids, candies do mean a lot to them, like some treasures stuff . Most of time, candies are the best ways to please kids. If you give them candies when they cry, they will just stop crying and being behaved. I still can hear some kidnap news by giving candies at times. Maybe you say, ‘ Oh come on ! That’s outdated’. But whatever you think it is, it doesn’t matter, because it still work in this world.

Sometimes, I try to remember what candies mean to me when I was little. But regrettably, I draw a blank constantly. Don’t know why, I think candies are not only snacks for kids but also….hmm… friend I guess. They won’t give strangers but someone they know or they like. They will keep it in a place for a long time, a beautiful tiny case I supposed. It’s really hard to get some from them. Maybe they are stingy ?  Or maybe they are just care about their little friends. Kids are so innocent and kind-hearted. Unlike some adults, so scheming. They don’t even give a shit for what they’ve done to people, granted that people get hurt by their ignorance. All they care about is they get what they want. AKA, SELFISH ! Make sense ?
