Yep Son. I think the community of foreigners in Zhongshan is probably better than in most cities probably due to the fact that ZS isnt a huge city so therefore many of the foreigners have there specific bars and restaurants that they hang out at thus making it easier to mingle with people and form long term freindships rather than just meet someone at a bar in a place like GZ and then never see them again. The foreigner community here tight knit in respect to assisting each other to overcome or work things out that would otherwise take greater effort in other cities. Thats why , My boy

My self and my co-workers were the only ones in my building, I have enjoyed watching Kaiyin grow. where Before there was only the deli. Now we have a bustling street with a good range of foods and atmosphere to enjoy. Soon the new Spanish Restaurant will arrive. I liked it then and I like it now.
Zhongshan is a growing community with a great group of people trying to make it happen. It wishes itself to be known as a city living in harmony. This may be difficult for it to achieve but it is their intent. I want to be part of that growth.
I now have family here and many friends. I have been apart of all Chinese festivals and have mourned. This is my home now. This is where I live and I need to start doing a better job of it.

"At least we don't have traffic jams, pollution, crime, etc." To which the obvious young person's retort is, "Yeah, but what do we have? Nothing to do, and a bunch of old people who couldn't hack it in the city."
I don't think I'm that young and snotty anymore, but still I've found visits to Hong Kong quite a lot more exciting than life in Zhongshan. (Certainly it's more westernized, but I'd never call it generic.)
It's almost certainly true that ZS is less polluted, and perhaps true that it's more of a real Chinese experience than some of the bigger cities would be. But as a place to settle down and spend a lot of time... I'm not so sure yet. At least, like those little Midwestern cities in America, it's in a good spot from which to go visit major cities without having to deal with them every day.
